AcCESS TO A FIRST JOB

Our diagnosis

  1. The main consequence of lower levels of education is that young people from disadvantaged families are more exposed to precarious employment and unemployment : 76% of young people with a baccalaureate started out in an insecure job (compared with 50% of those with a baccalaureate +5), and 20% are unemployed three years after leaving school (compared with 10% of those with a baccalaureate +5).
  2. What’s more, when it comes to iso-diplomas, young people from modest backgrounds have more difficulty finding a job. For example, young people from disadvantaged neighborhoods are systematically more exposed to unemployment 1 : +14 points for BEP-CAP graduates (40% vs. 26% on average in France); +12 points for BAC graduates (30% vs. 18% on average in France).
  3. As a result, social mobility stagnates for the most disadvantaged: a child of a senior executive is 4.5 times more likely than a child of a blue-collar worker to belong to the wealthiest 20% 2

Our aim

Break Poverty is committed to supporting measures to help young people from disadvantaged backgrounds access and enter the job market.

The type of intervention we can offer support for

  • Schemes to identify young NEETs (not in employment, education or training), so as to develop appropriate support for their integration into the world of work.
  • Schemes to remove the main obstacles to employment for the most disadvantaged young people: skills, interpersonal skills, networking, etc. (mentoring, individualized support, group workshops, etc.).
  • Measures likely to improve the integration of these young people into the workforce, to ensure that they progress at least as quickly as others.

PROJECTS FINANCED BY BREAK POVERTY IN SUPPORT OF ACCESS TO SUSTAINABLE EMPLOYMENT :

The Dotation d’Action Territoriale (DAT) is a Break Poverty program. This is a voluntary allocation by the company, of up to 2% of its net income, to finance projects to combat poverty among young people in its territory.

The company undertakes to support one or more local projects of its choice over a three-year period.

The projects supported by Break Poverty are rigorously selected according to 4 main criteria :

  1. Relevance : the proposed action meets the expressed social need
  2. Effectiveness : the proposed action works and has already demonstrated its effectiveness in the local area (or in another area).
  3. Organizational solidity : the action is capable of scaling up and meeting its objectives.
  4. Synergy with the ecosystem : the action demonstrates synergies with existing projects.
