30 Aug 2024 Dotation d’Action Territoriale national day
Under the aegis of the Break Poverty Foundation, 42 territories have decided to combat youth poverty by mobilizing their companies. This initiative, unique in France, is called the Dotation d’Action Territoriale. On September 28 and 29, representatives from these 42 territories met in Paris to review progress on this scheme, which is designed to lift 100,000 disadvantaged young people out of poverty !
On September 28 and 29, the 42 territories involved in the Dotation d’Action Territoriale (DAT) project met with the Break Poverty Foundation at the VINCI Foundation for the City, a partner in this project.
Thanks to you, by 2026, we'll be helping 100,000 disadvantaged young people towards a better future. Together, we can make a real difference.
Denis Metzger, President and Founder, Break Poverty Foundation
With the Dotation d’Action Territoriale, Break Poverty Foundation mobilizes local businesses alongside public authorities and associations to find solutions for “disadvantaged” children and young people.
We can't think about the fight against youth poverty without addressing regional poverty. Our country needs healthy young people and healthy regions. Through your action and our combined action, you are taking part in the fight against inequalities of destiny. You have an extraordinary mission.
Christian Forterre, Commissioner for the fight against poverty in Île-de-France
At the meeting, Christophe Sanchez, Director of Programs at Break Poverty Foundation, reminded participants of the signs of poverty among young people : 1 in 4 young people are poor, and it takes an average of 6 generations to escape poverty. The gap between children from disadvantaged and affluent backgrounds widens from an early age and throughout their school career.
To combat this determinism, we need to re-establish the social elevator. By mobilizing local businesses to finance associative projects with a high impact on young people, the 42 territories involved in the DAT are creating unprecedented synergies. With an average of 540,000 € raised from local businesses over 3 years, an average of 2,500 young people are targeted per region, and 75 % of them experience positive change.
Young people have a negative image of business leaders, and business leaders also have clichés about young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. When we bring people together, it humanizes the company, and young people realize that the world of work is also for them.
Anne-Flore Couronné, Manager of the VINCI Foundation for the Community, Greater West France
At a round table attended by a number of local DAT partners, business leaders shared their reasons for getting involved in this kind of initiative, and the need to mobilize local economic players on a wider scale to help disadvantaged young people.
For a company, local young people are its future customers, suppliers and employees. Investing so that the young people in your area do well, do better, is a fantastic investment.
Luc Vendeville, former Managing Director of ThyssenKrupp Electrical Steel, entrepreneur involved in the
in the Béthune DAT.
Being a local company means creating a professional collective aligned with its values, co-constructing and giving meaning to its actions.
Julien Manseau, Managing Partner of Rainbow Partners, involved in the DAT in Vaulx-en-Velin
A final highlight of the event was a meeting between representatives of DAT territories and some of the associations funded by this scheme.
The DAT enables us to create a fertile breeding ground for our local development, integrate a complete ecosystem and establish local partnerships.
Justine Fesneau, Founder of Pas à Pas, l'Enfant
For us project managers, DAT really makes the difference. This methodology is super efficient and saves us precious time. The DAT has given us greater visibility and credibility in the region.
Gaetan Le Manchec, Business Manager at Aurore
These two days, rich in exchanges and meetings, highlighted the synergies between players created by the DAT.
It's your mobilization that will make the difference in the lives of these young people. Break Poverty created the DAT, but it's you who makes it happen.
Valérie Daher, Break Poverty Executive Director
