30 Aug 2024 A successful first school year for Proxité in Romans-sur-Isère
At the dawn of the new school year, it’s time for Proxité to take its first positive assessment. The association set up its initial mentorships of young people by company employees in Romans-sur-Isère throughout the past year.
For Emeline, the year ended with her earning her high school diploma with a history grade that was double her annual average: “It’s thanks to Vincent, my mentor, that I got that grade. We tackled a document analysis together, and we reviewed the methodology, which reassured me a lot and made me feel confident. I never imagined getting an average like that, and I’m very proud; it’s a real personal victory.” Last year, nearly a dozen young people in Romans benefited from mentorship by company employees, thanks to the opening of a Proxité branch funded by Break Poverty and businesses through the Territorial Action Fund. The program included academic support but especially a lot of personal guidance to build confidence.
In Romans-sur-Isère, Juliette, the Proxité coordinator, aims to expand the number of young people supported by mobilizing more companies and their employees: “The dynamic of Proxité’s establishment in Romans is very positive. Thanks to the support of Break Poverty and our local partners, the association has quickly made its mark in the Romans landscape. The results and feedback from the first mentoring pairs are truly encouraging. We plan to go even further for the September start!”
According to Valérie Daher, Director of Break Poverty Foundation, “Mentoring with Proxité offers a unique chance for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to receive advice and support from company employees. And the results are there!” In summary, there are great prospects for Proxité’s second year in Romans-sur-Isère !
