OUR VISION

What if we found new solutions against poverty to offer a better future to the most disadvantaged?

What if every child had an equal chance to succeed?

What if every young person could have the means to learn a profession and find employment?

At Break Poverty, we believe that transformative solutions exist to give every child, every young person, hope to build themselves outside the scandalous cycle of extreme poverty. We believe that collective commitment and regular support from communities can gradually reduce inequalities

Because every child and young person should have the same opportunities to live and thrive, Break Poverty Foundation identifies and supports innovative solutions against extreme poverty, with one goal: to offer a future to all young people, in France and around the world.

Who can accept that extreme poverty increases a little more each day, while the wealthy nations themselves grow richer? Who can bear the sight of poor children on the streets when their place should be in the classroom?

Its action is based on three pillars: the selection and funding of high-potential programs, research, and mobilization for innovative solutions against poverty.

Its programs primarily target the following three areas:

Founded by Denis Metzger, President of Chequers Capital, one of Europe’s largest investment funds, the organization aims to place innovation, rigor, impact measurement, and leveraging power at the heart of its mission.

RESEARCH AND STUDIES: Understanding the causes of poverty to identify concrete actions in the service of poverty prevention

Sociologists, economists, anthropologists – the world of research on poverty studies is rich, and the output is extensive. Our ambition is to operationalize existing research efforts to identify concrete actions to implement.

To fulfill this ambition, Break Poverty Foundation has an internal team responsible for research and studies. This team also relies on external expertise (sociologists, economists, researchers, specialized consultants, etc.) when deemed necessary.

MANDATE: INNOVATION AND IMPACT TO FIGHT POVERTY

Break Poverty identifies and supports projects that offer real solutions in the fight against extreme poverty. It collaborates with international experts and researchers to identify key issues that will address these inequalities. Projects are selected based on rigorous criteria of experience, governance, management, and monitoring. It places impact at the core of its programs and investments, ensuring regular and rigorous monitoring of funded programs.

Its programs particularly target young people to provide them with access to education, training, or the implementation of an economic project so that they become self-sufficient.

Break Poverty operates in France and gradually expands its projects internationally. In all contexts, its approach remains the same: identifying and funding innovative solutions to prevent poverty and break social determinism among the most vulnerable youth.

INSPIRE AND MOBILIZE

Because the fight against inequalities is everyone’s battle, Break Poverty Foundation is committed to advocating for the definition and implementation of mobilizing and innovative solutions against poverty.

Ending poverty is a shared responsibility for all : civil society, businesses, governments, and international organizations must contribute. And this fight is now more vital than ever.

Break Poverty is committed to this path to identify and implement innovative solutions for the most impoverished. In this regard, Break Poverty Foundation has established the Territorial Action Endowment, an innovative mechanism for mobilizing businesses against youth poverty. This initiative was included in the National Strategy for Poverty Prevention and Reduction in 2018 and in the Solidarity Pact in 2023.

Furthermore, Break Poverty has contributed to enshrining the right to mentoring in the law. At our initiative, the right to mentoring was incorporated into the Taquet Law passed in 2022, allowing every young person under the protection of Child Welfare Services to benefit from the support of a mentor in their journey.
