Ukraine emergency

Break Poverty Foundation and Agence du Don en Nature, in partnership with the NGO Première Urgence Internationale, are mobilizing in Ukraine and France to support child victims of the conflict.

12 MILLION PEOPLE IN NEED OF EMERGENCY AID

The Ukrainian crisis has plunged tens of millions of people into horror, as they live in pain or mourning, surviving in ruins or on the roads. In Ukraine, 12 million people are in need of vital emergency aid; access to water has been made difficult, and health services function poorly due to incessant bombardments and staff who have fled.

Today, 3 million Ukrainians have fled their country, half of them children. Every second that passes, a Ukrainian child becomes a refugee. In France, the flow of refugees fleeing war is growing. The French government expects between 60,000 and 120,000 refugees to arrive in the next few days or weeks.

Whether in Ukraine, in neighboring countries or in France, all Ukrainians now depend on emergency charitable aid to meet their vital needs, especially particularly vulnerable children.

OUR ANSWER IN FRANCE

In France, thousands of Ukrainian families arrive with their children, destitute, having left behind many of their relatives. They lack everything; their needs are immense, especially for their children: milk, baby food, diapers, liniment, cribs, bottles, clothes, strollers, blankets, etc.

Break Poverty Foundation and l’Agence du Don en Nature, with the support of the Secrétariat à la Protection de l’Enfance et des Familles, will be sending essential baby hygiene, care and feeding products, as well as nursery products, to Ukrainian refugee reception points in France. The kits will be sent to the 3 main reception centers in Paris, Nice and Strasbourg, as well as to associations receiving Ukrainian refugees. Over 6,000 children will be welcomed this week. Thousands more are on their way to France.

OUR ANSWER IN UKRAINE

Although humanitarian access within Ukraine is limited and particularly challenging, it is still possible to take action in Ukraine. Our partner, the NGO Première Urgence Internationale, has been present and operational in the country since 2015. They continue their activities and are working to redeploy operations to meet the urgent needs of the most vulnerable populations in the heart of Ukraine.

With an office in Kyiv, a logistics base in Przemysl on the Polish-Ukrainian border, and advanced bases in Lviv and Kostiantynivka (Donetsk Oblast – Donbass), they are able to intervene effectively. The entire mission is composed of a team of 20 expatriates and 200 Ukrainian national staff.

For the past seven years, P.U.I. teams have worked along the contact line—from Volnovakha to the Bakhmut district in Donetsk Oblast—on both sides of the conflict zone. They support health facilities (outpatient clinics, midwifery stations, city or district hospitals, hospices) to provide local populations with access to quality care. They supply medical and non-medical equipment, repair water and sanitation infrastructures, and support people affected by the conflict.

P.U.I. has established networks and has a deep understanding of the field, enabling them to accurately assess needs and respond without delay.
