Pacte pour les Premiers Pas: an essential initiative to combat child poverty

The fight against child poverty has become an absolute priority, in the face of an alarming reality that affects many families in France. Indeed, it is estimated that over 300,000 children aged 0-3 live in conditions of food and hygiene deprivation, a situation exacerbated by the health crisis and economic instability. In response to this emergency, the Ministry of Solidarity and Families has launched the “Pacte pour les Premiers Pas” operation, with the aim of providing essential material assistance to the most vulnerable families. This initiative, backed by a public subsidy of over 6 million euros, aims to meet the basic needs of newborn babies.

The 1000 essential days: foundations of child well-being

The first 1,000 days of a child’s life are a fundamental period when every interaction, every food ingested, and every care provided contributes significantly to his or her development.

However, for many French families in precarious situations, providing adequate care and appropriate nutrition for their infants represents a considerable challenge. Financial constraints and lack of access to the necessary resources can compromise children’s well-being from the earliest stages of their lives. It is in this context that the “Pacte pour les Premiers Pas” operation is of vital importance.

Indeed, this initiative aims to overcome these shortcomings by providing essential material assistance to underprivileged families, particularly in terms of hygiene and care for infants. By mobilizing financial, material and human resources, this operation aims to create an environment conducive to healthy, harmonious development for all babies aged 0-3, regardless of their socio-economic background. The distribution of diapers, wipes and care products not only meets the immediate needs of newborns, but also relieves the financial burden on families, enabling them to concentrate on their child’s well-being and development.

A collective mobilization for solidarity

The “Pacte pour les Premiers Pas” operation embodies an unprecedented collaborative effort to meet the needs of newborn babies from disadvantaged backgrounds. In partnership with Break Poverty Foundation, Agence du Don en Nature and Dons Solidaires are joining forces to provide 100,000 babies facing poverty with essential hygiene products. The aim is clear: to provide concrete, effective support for families in precarious situations.

This collective mobilization takes the form of a massive distribution. The operation involves the supply of 13.5 million diapers, 11.2 million wipes and 200,000 care products, such as liniments and creams. Throughout 2024, these essential hygiene products will be sent to hundreds of partner associations, who will then redistribute them to beneficiary families throughout the country. The scope of this initiative is not limited to material goods alone, but also encompasses a call to solidarity and action. Everyone can contribute to this goal by making a donation on our website. By pooling our efforts, we can make a real difference to the lives of the most vulnerable families.
